Addressing Baltimore’s Vacant Housing Crisis at Scale
A critical strategy to dismantle the legacy of redlining and improve the lives of families across Baltimore must be to address the city’s 13,000 vacant and abandoned homes while not displacing current residents.
A Historic Collaboration
BUILD, the GBC, Baltimore's Mayor, and the State of Maryland are collaborating on this initiative—to invest and restore disinvested neighborhoods across Baltimore City.
Secured over $1 billion in public funding
We secured an initial city commitment of $300 million over 15 years and an additional $900 million over 15 years in state commitments for this strategy.
BUILD’s values are the values for redevelopment in our neighborhoods
The guiding principles of the redevelopment plan and strategy of a “whole blocks” approach that is committed to community-led development without displacement, mixed-income communities with affordability at scale, and addressing the racial wealth gap through homeownership were developed by BUILD and ReBUILD Metro.
