BALTIMORE MUST DECIDE: DOWNTOWN OR UPTOWN – BUILD CALLS FOR BOTH
Times are tough in the city, but we can’t afford to quit investing in our young people or the places they live and play and learn. As it has been for years, the City continues to focus on downtown: a billion-dollar expansion to the Convention Center, a Grand Prix racecourse downtown, and expensive tourist attractions along the Inner Harbor. Meanwhile our children try to learn in decrepit school buildings and have few places to play, whole swaths of our city remain abandoned, and residents live in fear in their own neighborhoods while children are being murdered. We know there are plans for school construction and recreation centers. The time for plans and task forces is over. The time now requires action. BUILD calls on elected officials, corporate and foundation leaders, and the faith community to chart a new course that includes investment both “Downtown and Uptown.”
